Hippo for Daniel

Daniel, my boyfriend, really loved the Elephant that I made a few months ago. So when we were talking about what we both wanted for Christmas, and I asked him what he wanted, he said, "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas!" Which is of course that silly song that they play during the holidays. So, I decided that I'd take that literal and make him one! It was fun! And he loved it!

Notice the orange filling in the hippo? Well that is thread from a sweater that I bought for a dollar at a thrift store with Daniel that I wanted to unravel, but the yarn kept breaking and it wasn't unraveling very nicely. So I just kinda balled up the thread and it created great stuffing for inside my little 3D crocheted animals. :)

Maybe Baby - Buddy Holly

I haven't updated this in quite some time. So here it goes....

I had no title for this blog, so I put what I was listening to at the time--and it just so happens to be Buddy Holly's Maybe Baby. And I just realized that this is where my mom got this phrase when she used to sing to me "Maybe Baby" to me whenever I'd ask a question. Ha!

So what's been going on, you ask? (Or don't ask--I'll tell you anyway) Just finished my 2nd year of college officially, and it turned out pretty well. So far so good with grades and everything which is nice. I have a nice buffer in my GPA to be able to keep my scholarship for the rest of my college career--hopefully anyway. It would be so nice to be able to not have student loans ever! Being able to start out my "adult" life without debt would be amazing!

So what happened this school year? It started out me living in the dorms in the fall--which turned out to be horrible. My roommates were all freshman, and to put it nicely were not good roommates to have. So I ended up meeting a super nice girl in my Economics class and we got to talking and she mentioned that she was looking for a roommate because she was living by herself in a house that her dad owns down here in Springfield. It ended up being a fabulous deal, and I wanted to move in right away. Unfortunately, I had to jump through many many hoops and loops to be able to move out of the dorms without having an "extreme need" that was deemed by the university. Somehow, with lots of tears and threatening remarks of moving back home, I was allowed to move out of the dorms at semester. And let me tell you, it was one of the best things I have ever done! The house is so amazing I just love it! No more stress of having to deal with horrible roommates, horrible parking spots, horrible study environment, horrible cafeteria food, etc, etc. It is also nice to have a place where my friends and family can come over and stay / have dinner.

Classes went well this Spring semester, and I am almost sad to see it leave, because I know that the coming semesters will not be as carefree and easy as this past semester was. I feel like this past semester was somewhat of a joke--I hardly ever had homework, and my professors all seemed to be lenient on grading, which was awesome. I ended up with a 4.0 this semester--which I was ecstatic about!

So now what's next? I am taking off a couple of weeks before intensely searching for a job. It's nice to just be able to do whatever--like go to Silver Dollar City for the Bluegrass & BBQ festival whenever I want, or do things with the church that I've been committed to. Too bad doing things I like doesn't pay--because I am slowly (or actually, rather quickly) am running out of money. I've been trying to be better about budgeting my money, but that hasn't really worked out to well. I always end up spending large amounts of money on something necessary (or not) and my budget usually gets pushed to the side. Which wouldn't matter as much if I had a job--because then I could do more things that cost money and not have to worry too much about having enough money for food or gas.

Anyway, life is pretty much the same old routine--that is why I guess I don't feel it necessary to update this blog (and the fact that I'm pretty sure no one ever reads these posts). I wish that I was creative and had fun things to write about--but that is just not the case, unfortunately.

First "Summer" Update

So I haven't updated in a long time because I was so busy with school. Well now that it is over until the fall I can finally update!!

Finals went well I suppose. I felt like I didn't even study at all for any of them--which made me feel like I wasn't going to do well in my classes. But I found out yesterday that I ended up getting a 4.0 this semester!! Woot!! I was pretty surprised by that--especially since I wasn't expecting an A in my Philosophy class. But I am praising the Lord for his guidance over my professor on grade day! =]

So now it is finally summer. Well kinda. Technically it's not summer until June 21st--but hey it's summer break to me. I ended up taking a job with BonWorth which is an older ladies apparel store out at our outlet mall. It's not the greatest job and I won't be getting very many hours, but I couldn't find much else. And plus, it's going to be nice to be able to not have to work my butt off and to still enjoy the nice weather.

Guess that's my update. Not much else going on. Just moved back a week ago and my room is still a mess with all of my stuff from my dorm room. I should probably work on getting that stuff put away maybe... =]

Busy, Busy, Busy...

Okay, so I've been busy. Last week had to write a 3-4 page essay for my Philosophy exam over the death penalty (kill me... pun intended.) then I had to write a 5-7 page research paper over why PE classes should have more requirements in school districts. Ugh. Now this week I am going to be busy with writing my term paper for philosophy that is over Same-Sex marriage. Yuck. Not looking forward to it. It is due on Tuesday, so the rest of this week and weekend is going to be super busy and not fun. But after that, I am done until finals really. I don't have any more tests before finals. Hallelujah.

Been looking for a job as well. Need one for the summer back in Newton. I've applied three places, and I'm hoping one will come through, but I haven't even heard anything from two of them and I'm kind of getting worried. No one wants to hire just for the summer. Boo. Might just have to suffer and apply at Dillion's, even though I REALLY don't want to work there... we'll just see I suppose. If anybody hears of anything opening up for the summer, let me know! I don't want anything in food or wal-mart though. =] I know, I'm picky.

Anyway, not much else to update about... gotta get my term paper started and finished by Monday night... think I can do it? Well, I better be able to anyway!

I'm bringing home my baby bumble bee.... Won't my mommy be so proud of me?

Not much going on to blog about lately. Except that I'm going to be an Aunt!!! Yay! My brother and his wife are going to have a baby sometime in November. How amazing is that? I'm so excited! I cannot wait to have a little baby to hold and eventually a niece or nephew that I will get to spoil beyond belief! (That is, until I have my own kids...) =]. I think we are all really excited about it. Although I do think it is going to be hard without my dad being there... I think he would've made a great grandpa!

On the subject of being an aunt... I think some of my fondest memories are with my aunt Marilyn. I can vividly remember almost every Christmas growing up when my Aunt Marilyn and Grandma and Grandma Tieszen would come over to the house or we'd go to the farm. Christmas was such a great holiday growing up because we always spent it with my Dad's side of the family. It was so much fun! And I really liked it because I always got lots of gifts. =] But for some reason I remember one year we had Christmas at our house and I remember sitting on my Aunt Marilyn's lap singing with her that song about the baby bumble bee. I LOVED that song! If you've never heard of it before--you need to watch this adorable video of this little girl singing it... she's so cute!! Anyway, I can't wait to be able to sing that song with my little niece or nephew. =] I'm so excited!!

March Madness

Tis the season to watch basketball... and for a blizzard???

Had a good time watching the march madness tournament while on spring break with the church family... even though KU, Louisville, and Pittsburgh lost... but what was more mad than that was the blizzard that came through!

It was a pretty crazy weekend! Newton got about 6 inches of snow I'd say... but western Kansas got up to over 2 feet!! CRAZY!!!
